Create a winter wonderland on your plate with our Nutella Puff Pastry Snowflake, a dazzling blend of rich chocolate hazelnut spread, flaky puff pastry, and a hint of zesty orange.
A few weeks ago, I received a copy of the much-anticipated “Holiday and Celebration Breads in Five Minutes a Day“. If you aren’t familiar with the “Bread in 5” blog, hop on over and check it out! It will have you baking bread like a pro in no time—seriously! While this particular recipe isn’t from their book, it was inspired by one of their recipes: star bread.
Star bread is a sweet brioche bread filled with just about anything you can think of—cinnamon, jam, nut butter, pesto, etc. I wanted to take that idea and transform it into something even easier!

How to Make Nutella Puff Pastry Snowflake
Step 1: Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Step 2: Place the first round of store-bought puff pastry onto the parchment lined baking sheet. Using an offset spatula, spread the Nutella over top, leaving a 1/4-inch rim around the outside uncovered. Zest the orange over top.
Step 3: Place the second round of puff pastry over top, press gently to seal. Mark the center of the circle. Using a pastry wheel or pizza cutter, cut the circle into fourths, leaving about a half inch of uncut dough in the center. Continue by cutting the fourths into eighths, then the eighths into sixteenths. You should have sixteen sections.
Step 4: Grab two sections and twist them away from each other three times, then press the two ends together to make a point. Repeat until you have 8 points or “arms.”
Step 5: Brush the snowflake with a light coat of egg wash, then place in the oven and bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and fully baked.
Step 6: Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 20 minutes before dusting with powdered sugar, if desired, and enjoy!
FAQs
Yes, you can use a sharp knife if a pizza wheel or pastry wheel is not available. For guidance, place a glass upside-down in the center of your pastry circle. Whether using a sharp knife or pizza wheel, cut from the edge of the glass outward, creating 16 even wedges around the circle.
Use a fine grater or zester and lightly grate only the orange part of the peel, avoiding the bitter white pith beneath.
Storage Info
STORE the Nutella Puff Pastry Snowflake at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 2 days. For longer storage, wrap it tightly and FREEZE for up to 2 months. Avoid refrigeration as it can make the pastry soggy.
To REHEAT, thaw if frozen, then warm in a preheated oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius) for about 5-10 minutes or until heated through.
