Ingredients

  • 1 lb fresh green beans
  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds
  • 1.5-2 Tbsp salted butter
  • 1/2 tsp minced garlic
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Cover the bottom inch of a large saucepan with water. Place a steamer basket inside, cover and bring to a boil.
  • While the water heats, rinse the beans and then trim off any stems.
  • As soon as the water starts to boil, turn the heat down to medium, add the beans and steam for 6-8 minutes, depending on whether you like your beans to be firm or soft. When done, briefly rinse the beans in cold water. Place the beans in a serving dish and set to the side.
  • Place the nuts in a small sauté pan on medium-low to medium heat, stirring several times for 4 minutes or until lightly toasted. Don’t walk away from the stove -they burn fast. Add the butter to the pan along with the garlic and stir continuously until the butter melts, up to 30 seconds. Remove completely from heat.
  • Pour the nut mixture over the beans and sprinkle on the onion powder, salt and pepper. Toss until well combined.
