- 1 lb fresh green beans
- 1/2 cup sliced almonds
- 1.5-2 Tbsp salted butter
- 1/2 tsp minced garlic
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
- salt and pepper to taste
Cover the bottom inch of a large saucepan with water. Place a steamer basket inside, cover and bring to a boil.
While the water heats, rinse the beans and then trim off any stems.
As soon as the water starts to boil, turn the heat down to medium, add the beans and steam for 6-8 minutes, depending on whether you like your beans to be firm or soft. When done, briefly rinse the beans in cold water. Place the beans in a serving dish and set to the side.
Place the nuts in a small sauté pan on medium-low to medium heat, stirring several times for 4 minutes or until lightly toasted. Don’t walk away from the stove -they burn fast. Add the butter to the pan along with the garlic and stir continuously until the butter melts, up to 30 seconds. Remove completely from heat.
Pour the nut mixture over the beans and sprinkle on the onion powder, salt and pepper. Toss until well combined.
