Hi there, and welcome to Life Made Simple! I’m Natalie, the baker, writer, and photographer behind this blog. I love creating new twists on classics. I’m talking easy, fool-proof recipes that are made with real ingredients.
About Life Made Simple
I started posting recipes to our family blog a few years after we moved to Florida for my husband to attend law school. I was in the process of finding a job and my husband was in class most of the day, which meant I had a lot of free time. Being in the kitchen was a coping mechanism that quickly turned into something so much more. After realizing that people other than my friends and family were reading my posts and trying my recipes, I decided to turn our little family blog into a .com and soon after Life Made Simple was born!
Upon returning to Utah I started working at Sur La Table and put blogging to the side. I gained so much knowledge about food, cooking, and baking. It has definitely influenced the way I approach recipes and has taught me how to be both innovative and inspired. I try to share all of the tips and tricks I’ve learned with you throughout my posts and in my recipes. Again, I’m self-taught, probably like the majority of bloggers and home chefs out there, so be kind 🙂 Plus I’m human and have a family (3 under 4 ☺️ little ones), so if you find an error in a post or recipe, I apologize, just leave a comment or shoot me an email and I’ll resolve them ASAP!
As you can probably tell, most of my recipes are quick and easy. I tend to favor using ingredients that you’d most likely have in your pantry or fridge. I know from experience that there’s nothing more stressful and inconvenient then having to run to the store to spend more money on one-time use ingredients! I’m all about desserts that are unique, approachable and budget friendly, ones that will make your life simple! I do however, believe that recipes should be made with quality ingredients and that they should be flavorful. If the ingredient list is longer than you expected, that’s why!
I grew up in a small town in northern California where I spent a lot of time learning to cook and bake from my mom. I became even more passionate for food after enrolling in culinary arts classes during high school. Upon graduating, I moved to Provo, UT to attend college at Brigham Young University. I earned a bachelors degree with an emphasis in clothing construction and eventually met my husband Stephen (you’ll probably see him mentioned here and there). We married shortly after meeting and life has never been better!
We now reside in Virginia (just outside of D.C.) and spend most of our time entertaining the three newest additions to our family, they definitely keep us busy! While Stephen is at work, I use nap time to bake and blog. It’s been quite an undertaking! When we’re not busy with the kiddos at home, we like to get out and spend time exploring the great outdoors, visiting museums, and playing soccer. We’re pretty big on chocolate and cheesecake. I’m a self-professed peanut butter lover and have a fondness for anything that involves pumpkin, cookie dough, or sprinkles. He loves brownies and that’s perfectly fine with me.
Thanks for stopping by… happy baking!
