Ingredients

3 tbsp unsalted butter
3 sweet or yellow onions thinly sliced*
2 teaspoon kosher sea salt
1 tsp granulated sugar
1 1/4 cup sour cream
8 oz original cream cheese softened
1 1/2 tablespoon freshly chopped parsley
1 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 tsp ground black pepper

Instructions

In a large skillet set over medium heat, add butter. Once the butter has melted, add the onions and sprinkle with salt and sugar. Sauté onions for 40-50 minutes or until they become golden or amber in color. Take care to stir every 5-10 minutes to prevent burning. Remove from the heat and set aside.
In a medium mixing bowl, combine the sour cream, cream cheese, parsley, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and pepper. Using a hand-held mixer, beat until smooth and creamy.
Break down the onions into smaller pieces using a spatula or transfer them to a cutting board and chop. Transfer to the bowl and mix until combined.
Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

*The thinner the onion slices, the better!

STORE the Sweet Onion Dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week—it will stay fresh as long as the sour cream is good. The flavors continue to develop, making it even better the next day. DO NOT FREEZE, as the sour cream will become grainy and separate.

When serving, do not let the dip sit out for more than 2 hours, as the sour cream can spoil. If entertaining, keep it refrigerated beforehand and return it to the fridge as soon as possible to maintain freshness. Before serving leftovers, give the dip a good stir. It’s best enjoyed chilled or at room temperature.
