A burger in a bowl
I cannot believe it is already 2023. Every year seems to just fly by. However with the new year, as always, come new year’s resolutions. Every year I make them, and sometimes I stick to them, other times it’s difficult. However, one thing I want to do this year is to be more conscious of what I am eating. I don’t want to “diet” or “cut foods out” because that is never helpful or realistic. But I do want to make good choices when I can and that starts with this delicious burger bowl! Nowadays with everyone wanting to eat better a lot of burger places have options to either have a lettuce wrapped burger, a burger bowl, or a burger salad. Well, that is precisely what this recipe is.
These fully loaded burger bowls combine lettuce, ground beef, shredded cheddar cheese, red onions, pickles, tomatoes, bacon, and avocado. It has all of the flavors of a delicious burger but instead of being on a bun it’s on a bed of lettuce. You get all of that yummy burger taste without the carbs and extra calories from a bun.
How to make a burger bowl
Assemble your ingredients. For exact amounts see the recipe card below.
In a skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil then the ground beef.
Brown the beef into crumbles and once it is close to being finished, add in the garlic powder and mix well.
Remove the beef from the heat and drain any excess grease.
Time to prepare your burger bowl. Fill a serving bowl with chopped romaine lettuce. Next, add the ground beef, cheese, tomatoes, pickles, bacon, onions, and avocados.
Pour some Burger Sauce over your bowl and enjoy!
Recipe Variations
Burger bowls are meant to be your own! Make it how you would make your favorite burger!
Cheese
I love cheddar on my burger but you might prefer something else. Other cheeses I would recommend is Swiss, American, Pepperjack, Provolone, Mozzarella, or even blue cheese. You can always swap out cheddar for your favorite!
Toppings
There are so many burger toppings you can add. Along with the ones we have, others could be;
- Fried Egg
- Mushrooms
- Chili
- Peppers
Protein
Although burgers are typically made with ground beef it doesn’t mean that has to be the protein you use for your burger bowl. One option to make this recipe additionally healthy is substituting the ground beef for ground turkey which is lower in overall fat, sodium, and cholesterol.
Dressing/Condiments for your Burger Bowl
I have to say what I would recommend for your burger bowl is our Burger Sauce. It has a little bit of everything in it and is the perfect complement to this dish. However other options for dressing for this burger salad are,
- Ranch
- Ketchup
- Mayo
- Mustard
- Blue Cheese
- Thousand Island
Storage information
Since a lot of these items are already stored on their own it’s really the ground beef that you need storage instructions on. You can store the cooked ground beef in an airtight container in your fridge for 3-5 days.
