Why I Love these Oven-Baked Ribs
- No need for outdoor grilling; enjoy your BBQ ribs any time of year, regardless of the weather.
- The slow cooking process for Oven BBQ Ribs allows the ribs to fully absorb the marinade and fall off the bone.
- Baking ribs in the oven means less mess compared to grilling, making cleanup a breeze.
Recipe Ingredients

Pork Spareribs – These ribs turn out so tender and juicy, practically falling off the bone after slow cooking. They’re rich and full of flavor.
Smoked Paprika – Adds a smoky, slightly sweet touch that gives the dish a deeper, more layered flavor.
Honey – It’s the secret to that perfect sweet contrast, balancing out the spices and vinegar while giving the ribs a sticky glaze.

How to Cook Oven Baked BBQ Ribs
To Make the Ribs
Step 1: Preheat the oven to 275 degrees Fahrenheit (135 degrees Celsius). Line a rimmed baking sheet with foil or a baking mat, and set aside.
Step 2: In a small bowl, combine the seasonings. Set aside 1 tbsp. of the rub (it will be used in the BBQ sauce).

Step 3: Place the ribs on the prepared baking sheet. Pat the rub onto the ribs on both sides, then place them meat side down. Place a large piece of foil over the top and seal the edges to make a packet.

Step 4: Place in the oven and bake for 2½ – 3 hours or until the meat is tender but not completely falling off the bone (some ribs may require up to 3½ hours). Remove ½ cup of the juices that have accumulated and set aside.

To Make the BBQ Sauce
Step 1: In a small saucepan set over medium heat, combine the tomato sauce, honey, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, pineapple juice, garlic, reserved 1 tbsp. of the spice rub, and reserved juices. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes or until the sauce thickens. Remove from the heat and set aside.
Step 2: Heat a grill or place a grill pan over medium-high heat. Cover the ribs with the BBQ sauce and place them on the grill. Cook until they are charred on both sides, about 5-6 minutes per side. Serve with additional BBQ sauce.

Expert Tips
Wrapping the ribs in aluminum foil helps lock in all those amazing juices and flavors, keeping the ribs tender and moist. It also helps them cook more evenly, so you don’t end up with dry spots.
If you’re out of foil, consider using baby back ribs since they stay tender even if you lose a bit of moisture. And don’t forget—cooking them meat side down lets all those juices pool at the bottom, soaking right into the meat for extra juicy, delicious ribs!
FAQs
Maximizing the flavor of your ribs begins with a generous application of the rub. Don’t hesitate to coat every inch of the ribs thoroughly. For an even deeper flavor profile, let the ribs marinate for a few hours or, ideally, overnight.
For that perfect sauce consistency, let it simmer gently over low heat. Give it a stir now and then to keep it from sticking or burning, and let it thicken up slowly just the way you like it.
Serving BBQ ribs with sides like Instant Pot Macaroni and Cheese, Mom’s Classic Potato Salad, Hatch Chile Cornbread, Instant Pot Baked Beans, and Red, White, and Blue Fruit Salad creates a well-rounded and festive meal.

STORE your Oven Baked BBQ Ribs leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. To FREEZE, wrap them tightly in foil before placing them in a freezer bag. You can freeze them for up to 3 months.

I would have never thought to make Ribs in the oven, but man o’ man were they good!
These oven baked ribs are absolutely delicious and very tasty! My family loved this recipe and devoured it all! Huge hit here and I will be making these again!
Yum! The meat just falls off the bone! It’s so tender & tastes amazing!! Perfect for the fourth!
These are so tender and juicy! The flavor is so amazing too! Ribs are always a special treat at our! They do not last long!
Something here doesn’t sound right, unless this is “twice-cooked” pork. Step #3 calls for baking 2 – 2 1/2 hours. Then #5 calls for a final saucing and charring on the grill. That step ends with “Serve with additional BBQ sauce,” which sounds like the end of a recipe (“serve”). But then steps #6 through #8 seem to call for additional baking of up to 4 hours more—for a total of 6 hours, which is way too much even in a slow oven. And step 10 seems to repeat the final charring of 5. Sounds like maybe 6-10 is an alternate for 3-5.
I have used this basic method (rub, bake, final char) for years and it works well, especially if you refrigerate the baked ribs for a day or two before doing then final grill-bit with sauce – flavors develop better, and having the ribs cold when they go on the grill keeps them from falling apart too soon. But total cooking for baby backs is never more than 3 hours.
