The Most Flavorful Noodles

Lately, I’ve been trying to simplify our family dinners. That means anything that requires minimal prep work has shot to the top of my list and if it takes less than 30 minutes, even better!

Pasta has always been a fav in our house and today’s butter garlic noodles are quite possibly the easiest noodles I’ve ever made!

Not only that, but they’re crazy flavorful and filling. Win-win! We like to serve it with some grilled chicken and zucchini for a complete meal. Trust me when I say you’ll want to add this to the meal rotation. 😉

How to Make Garlic Butter Noodles

All you need is a pound of pasta (any shape will do but I prefer one that will hold sauce well), butter, garlic, salt, pepper and cheese. And then it’s just four easy steps:

  1. While your pasta is boiling, in a medium saucepan heat the butter until melted.
  2. Add 8 cloves of minced garlic and sauté until tender and fragrant.
  3. Add in the salt and pepper and pour over the drained pasta.
  4. Toss with parmesan and Parmigiano Reggiano cheese and garnish with some fresh parsley (totally optional).

That’s it. Crazy easy, crazy delicious.

Variations/additions: this recipe is super simple so feel free to add and swap ingredients to make it your own!

  • Basil
  • Baby spinach
  • Red pepper flakes
  • Broccoli
  • Add grilled chicken strips to make it more filling
  • Egg noodles or whole wheat noodles
  • If you want to get extra fancy you could brown some of the butter for a nuttier flavor… I mean, brown butter makes everything 10x more delicious, so you can’t go wrong!

FAQs

What is the difference between parmesan cheese and Parmigiano Reggiano? Parmesan cheese is an imitation of Parmigiano Reggiano. You can use both in this recipe for a rich flavor profile without using all of your nice expensive cheese.

How to properly mince garlic? Take your head of garlic and press down with the flat part of your hand to loosen the cloves from the head. Take each clove and smash with the flat part of the knife with the flat part of your hand. Remove the outer skin and smash it again. Then dice and mince the garlic into small pieces.

Can you use garlic powder instead? You can use garlic powder in your garlic butter noodles but it won’t carry the same kick and authentic taste.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb pasta - whole wheat or regular
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter - OR 1/3 c. olive oil
  • 8 cloves garlic - minced
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground black pepper
  • 2 tbsp parmesan cheese - grated
  • 1/4 cup Parmigiano Reggiano cheese - grated
  • 1-2 tbsp fresh parsley - chopped (optional)

Instructions

  • In a large stock pot full of salted water, cook pasta according to package's directions.
  • Meanwhile, in a small saucepan set over medium low heat, melt the butter. Once the butter has melted, add the minced garlic and sauté for about 5 minutes or until translucent and fragrant. Do not brown the garlic! Add the salt and pepper and remove from the heat.
  • Drain the pasta, return to the large stockpot. Pour the garlic-butter sauce over top, stir to combine. Allow the pasta to rest for 3-4 minutes so that it can absorb some of the sauce. Serve and garnish with cheeses and parsley (if desired).

  1. I loved the recipe. I added onions just because I had them on hand and it was a glorious addition. I had two helpings!

This is my go to quick crowd pleaser!! My entire family loves it and that’s saying a lot for my pickiest eaters.

  2. So simple, so delicious. I used rotini noodles, they worked great. I chopped up Italian flat parsley which gives it a nice flavor and all that garlic..wow…so good! Thank you for this recipe, it’ll be one that we have over and over again in our house!!!

  3. This was so yummy! I halved the recipe and used garlic powder instead of fresh garlic. I also added some extra parmesan cheese. I will definitely be making this again. Thanks for the great recipe! ?

  4. Wow! I made this with Dreamfield’s rotini noodles.
I’m not really a big pasta fan and I thought for sure “healthy” pasta was definitely gonna suck and I may have even messed up the garlic and forgot to add the cheese at the end, but this turned out awesome! The kids even liked it!

  5. Thank you for sharing this extremely easy and tasty recipe. This meal has stepped into 1st place as our new favorite go to dinner.

  6. We also do something similar! While the Asta is boiling,we take a handful per person eating of cherub tomatoes, any kind, any color, put into a glass baking dish with garlic and a pinch or 2 of sugar and pimch or 2 of salt/pepper/cayenne then douse in olive oil, giving the dish a good shake to stir. Bake at 375 until the tomatoes pop, pour over cooked pasta, juices and all and top with grated parm! I have done it with the butter, too and actually prefer this recipe she has with butter

  7. Trying this tonight with some Cellentani noodles and smoked salmon! We love garlic and this sounds so easy and delicious! I can’t wait!

  8. Ever try reserving some pasta liquid, returning al dente cooked pasta to same pot, with the liquid, the unmelted butter cut in chunks, garlic, and cheese, tossing it all together over low heat?  The pasta absorbs more of the ingredients then, rather than just being coated..mmmmmm

  9. Delicious! Just “plain” enough for all the kids to like it but not plain at all! Lots of flavor.. I added diced chicken to the sauce and followed the rest of the recipe exactly… I gave the kids the option of adding the cheese or eating plain.. most ate it plain except for me and one daughter. I tried it plain and even then it was really good! Everyone got seconds.. definitely making this a staple thanks for sharing!

  10. Its not my first time to pay a visit this site,
i am visiting this web site dailly and get nice facts from here

Wow, was this good. I loved it, quick and easy to make, and it tasted wonderful too. I’ll be making this often, it was perfect with tender oven baked chicken and salads. What a great meal. I used Gemelli shapped pasta, it sucked up the beautiful butter garlic saucer perfectly. Bk

    1. That sounds delicious! I am happy you like the recipe! Thank you for letting me know what you did!

  13. 5 stars
I made this as a pasta to go with my chicken cacciatore.  Deiish.  The extra flavors with the garlic and cheese were so good with the chicken.  Next time, I will make this for my only dish with some good garlic bread.  I LOVE GARLIC.
    Thank you for sharing.

The whole family enjoys these noodles, even my picky kids! They taste great. Sometimes, I will add chicken, too.

  15. This looks awesome! Making this tonight! Do you think the frozen Reames Egg Noodles would work? The noodles in the picture almost look like them.
    Thank you!

    1. I haven’t tried this recipe with the frozen egg noodles before so I’m not sure how they would work but if you try it out let me know. I’d love to hear how it turned out!
