Apple Pie Baked Beans are a fun and delicious twist on a classic side dish. They combine the hearty, savory richness of baked beans along with the sweet, spiced comfort of apple pie filling. The result is a unique blend of flavors that pairs perfectly with smoky barbecue, grilled meats, or even a holiday ham. Plus, with it being a large batch dish, it easily serves a whole crowd!

Recipe Variations

Add a Spicy Kick – If you want a recipe with more spice I would recommend adding in a little chipotle or cayenne powder to the dish. You could even add some green peppers for a less spicy taste as well.

Pie Filling – If you are not a fan of apples you could also use cherry pie filling or even peach pie filling in this recipe instead.

Mustard – If you are in a pinch you can always use yellow mustard if you do not have Dijon mustard on hand.

How to Make Apple Pie Baked Beans

Step 1: In a pan over medium-high heat, cook the bacon until crispy. Then set onto paper towels to cool. Once cooled, chop into small pieces.

Step 2: Drain out a majority of the bacon grease leaving about 1 Tablespoon in the skillet and sauté the yellow onion until softened.

Step 3: Next, add the beans, apple pie filling, onion, BBQ sauce, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, and ¾ of the bacon crumbles to a crock pot or slow cooker and mix everything together.

Step 4: Cook on low heat for 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Step 5: Finally, top with the remaining bacon crumbles, serve with a slotted spoon and enjoy!

FAQs

Can I use fresh apples instead of apple pie filling?

Yes you can. Be sure to peel and simmer them slightly before adding them into your crockpot. Also note the overall flavor will be less sweet since you are missing some of the additional sugar from the apple pie filling.

To make these apple pie baked beans vegetarian simply remove the bacon and you’re good to go!

  • 8 strips bacon
  • 1/2 cup yellow onion - diced
  • 56 oz baked beans - canned
  • 15 oz apple pie filling
  • 1/2 cup barbeque sauce
  • 1 Tbsp light brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 Tbsp Dijon mustard
