This Hawaiian BBQ Pizza is a perfect blend of smoky BBQ sauce, sweet pineapple, crispy bacon, and savory ham—everything you need for the ultimate pizza experience!

This Hawaiian BBQ pizza is the perfect blend of sweet, smoky, and savory flavors in every bite. Tangy barbecue sauce replaces traditional pizza sauce, creating a rich base that pairs beautifully with juicy pineapple and tender pieces of ham. Melted mozzarella cheese ties it all together, while a sprinkle of red onion adds just the right amount of bite and crunch. Baked until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly, this pizza is a crowd-pleasing twist on a classic that’s perfect for any occasion!

Recipe Ingredients

BBQ Sauce – Tangy, smoky, and slightly sweet. Use your favorite brand or make your own homemade BBQ sauce for extra flavor.
Mozzarella Cheese – What’s a pizza without mozzarella? This cheese melts well, creating a creamy texture.
Pineapple – Team Pineapple on Pizza! I used pineapple tidbits, smaller than pineapple chunks.
For a full list of ingredients and amounts, see the recipe card below.
Variations
Mozzarella Cheese – Swap out the mozzarella for a combination of provolone and cheddar cheese for a sharper, more complex cheese profile. You can also try gouda for a creamy, slightly smoky flavor or fontina for a nutty addition.
Ham – Instead of traditional ham, try using smoked chicken breast or rotisserie chicken for a juicy, flavorful, and leaner alternative.
How to Make Hawaiian BBQ Pizza
Step 1: Make dough according to the recipe’s directions (or use store-bought dough); set aside.
Step 2: Preheat oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit (232 degrees Celsius).
Step 3: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a 14-inch circle. Transfer to a parchment-lined pizza pan. Fold over the extra inch of dough to form the crust, pressing to seal. Brush with olive oil. Dock the center of the pizza with a fork to prevent large bubbles from forming. Place in the oven and bake for 5–7 minutes, remove and set aside.
Step 4: Spread the BBQ sauce over top, then half of the mozzarella cheese. Add the ham, bacon, and pineapple tidbits, then top with the remaining mozzarella and the sliced red onion (however much you prefer).
Step 5: Place in the oven and bake for 7–10 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted. Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 5 minutes, then sprinkle with chopped cilantro and red pepper flakes. Allow to cool for 2–3 additional minutes, then cut and serve.

Expert Tip
Don’t Overload with Toppings – Keep the toppings in moderation. Too many ingredients can weigh down the crust and make it soggy. Stick to the essentials for a perfect balance of flavor and texture.
FAQs
Yes, you can use store-bought dough. However, for a fresher texture, homemade dough is recommended. Simply roll it out to your desired size before adding toppings.
The pizza is done when the crust is golden and crispy, and the cheese is fully melted and bubbly. A slight char on the edges of the crust is a good sign that it’s ready.
Storage Information
To STORE your Hawaiian Barbecue Pizza leftovers, allow them to cool completely before refrigerating. Wrap it tightly in plastic wrap or foil and place it in an airtight container. It will stay fresh for up to 3 days in the refrigerator. You can also FREEZE it for up to 2 months.
To REHEAT, bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 10-12 minutes until the crust is crispy and the cheese is melted. If using a microwave, heat on medium for 1-2 minutes or until heated through, though the crust may not stay as crispy. For an even crispier result, you can also reheat in a skillet over low heat for a few minutes.
