Variations

  • Garnish Options: For a finishing touch, garnish with pomegranate arils or seeds for color and sweetness, or sprinkle toasted pumpkin seeds for crunch. Add dried cranberries, or maraschino cherry for extra flavor. A drizzle of honey, maple syrup, or a sprinkle of parsley, thinly sliced shallots, or mint can also elevate the presentation. For added richness, consider nuts like candied walnuts, toasted almonds, or pecans.
  • Cheese Alternatives: If you’re looking to switch up the cheese, try crumbled goat cheese or feta cheese for a tangy twist, use shaved Parmesan for a rich, savory flavor, add shredded cheddar cheese for a sharp, creamy taste, or substitute gorgonzola for a bold, pungent flavor.

Expert Tips

  • Choose Ripe Pears: Ensure your pears are ripe but firm for the best flavor and texture. Overripe pears can become mushy in the salad.
  • Chill the Dressing: Prepare the dressing ahead of time by whisking the ingredients together and chilling it in the refrigerator. This helps the flavors meld together and makes the salad refreshing.
  • Add Dressing Just Before Serving: To keep the salad crisp, shake the dressing in a mason jar and add it right before serving. Toss gently to ensure an even coating without wilting the greens.
