Apples are one of my FAVORITE fruits. There’s so many different ones and they all have different flavors. Plus, there’s a natural sweetness to them that makes it one of the best snacks. And if that wasn’t enough, they also stay good for a while. Which is precisely how I came up with this recipe. I had some apples that I needed to use up, popped them in a blender with some of my favorite smoothie ingredients and this apple smoothie recipe was created!
Ingredients for This Apple Smoothie
There are a number of ingredients for this healthy Apple Smoothie but combining them altogether makes for a delectable beverage!
Apple – You cannot have an Apple Smoothie without an apple! I would recommend using a honeycrisp or gala apple for this recipe.
Almond Milk – I always use almond milk for my smoothies, it is the perfect base for this fruity concoction.
Oats – These add some sustenance to the smoothie helping you stay full longer.
Peanut Butter – A little dollop of protein to help start the day.
Maple Syrup – A hint of sweetness added to the smoothie.
Vanilla Extract – A splash of flavor.
Cinnamon and Nutmeg – A little dash of spice to tie everything together!
How to make an Apple Smoothie
Assemble your ingredients. For exact amounts see the recipe card below.
Using an apple cutter or a knife, remove the core from the apple and cut the apple into bite sized pieces and add them to your blender.
Next add in the almond milk, oats, peanut butter, maple syrup, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and ice into the blender.
Blend all of the the ingredients for about 1 – 1.5 minutes until everything has been pulsed together.
Finally, pour into your favorite smoothie glass and enjoy!
Recipe Variations
Apples
This recipe calls for gala or honey crisp apples because I personally think they are the best in this recipe. However, there are a number of apples you can choose. If you are wanting a slightly less sweet smoothie, then you can go with red delicious. For a tarter flavored smoothie you can use a green Granny Smith apple.
Maple Syrup
If you don’t have maple syrup or don’t prefer it, you can substitute it out for honey. They are both similar in thickness and sweetness and add that hint of sweet to the smoothie.
Peanut Butter
Knowing this is a common allergy food you can swap out Peanut Butter for Almond Butter or another nut butter that adds a little bit of thickness and protein.
Almond Milk
Almond milk is my favorite base for a smoothie and one of the more common ones as well. However, if you would prefer to use regular milk you can do so. But I would personally recommend trying it with Almond milk first!
Storage Information
You can store this smoothie in an airtight container in your fridge for 1-2 days.
